Camberwell, London SE5 is part of the London Borough of Southwark, and is approximately 2.7 miles south east of Charing Cross.
The name was probably defived from the old English 'Cumberwell', meaning Welsh well, and there were a number of springs on the southern slope of Denmark Hill. Camberwell was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. In 1801 the population of Camberwell was 7019.
