Bow is situated at the northern end of the Blackwall Tunnel in east London.It is 4.6 miles east of Charing Cross. Bow Church is the centre of Bow, with a bridge across the River Lee. Old Ford is at the site of a Roman river crossing over the river Lee, which was used until the present bridge was built.
A convent of Benedictine nuns was established at the Priory of St Leonards, in Bromley By Bow, which was mentioned by Chaucer in Canterbury Tales.
