Alperton Underground Station opened on June 28, 1903. At that time it was part of the District Line. Chicken Cottage, the fast food chain, originated with just one outlet in Alperton before becoming a nationwide chain. The earliest mention of Alperton was in 1199, and the name may mean 'Apple Farm'.
Alperton is only six miles from central London, just south of Wembley, but its position on the Piccadilly line means that the public perception of the area is that it is much further out.
