RICS Probate Valuation Nutfield, Surrey RH1 5RP – Probate Valuers Details Of Long Case Clock

May 17th, 2012

In a recent probate valuation in Mid Street, South Nutfield, Surrey RH1 5RP probate valuers report includes a 17th century long case clock.

Jeffrey Avery & Associates are regularly carry out probate valuation in Surrey, but it was during a probate valuation of chattels in Mid Street, South Nutfield, Surrey RH1 5RP that the 17th century long case clock was listed. We have also carried out probate valuation in Molesey, Mytchett, New Chapel, Newdigate, Normandy, Oatlands Park and Ockham, but it was during the probate valuation of house contents in Nutfield RH1 that we noted the 17th century long case clock

Longcase clock with bolt and shutter maintaining power, C.1685.

The 17th Century

The first designs were very basic and were made for a purpose and not to be decorative in any way. Over time the designs evolved and the first recognisable longcase clocks were being made by makers like Edward East and Fromanteel during the 1670s. These cases were very slender in design, made principally of oak or pine and veneered in fruitwood which was then ebonised to create a black polished finish.

Almost all of these early clocks were of 30 hour duration but the 8 day and month duration longcase clocks followed very closely. There were even some made that were of year duration. These clocks are very rare and were made by the famous makers of the time such as Quare and Tompion who were working from the 1680’s. A number of longcase clocks by these makers are in the Royal collection.

The first type of dial used for the longcase clock was the square brass dial (separate chapter ring and brass spandrels to the corners) used approximately between the 1670s to 1730. As more features were required the dials were made with an arch to the top (shallow at first) which would contain features such as strike/silent, phases of the moon, date and time regulation. Sometimes just the name of the maker was shown. The wood being used at this period was mainly walnut veneered oak, ebonised and marquetry.

We always carry out extensive research, so by having our RICS probate valuation we will ensure that the chattels are not under or overvalued.

Need A House Contents Valuation For Probate – Valuers Requirements And Preparation

May 14th, 2012

If you are instructing a Rics surveyor to carry out a house contents valuation for probate there are a few simple steps to take in preparation for the probate valuers visit.

It is a good idea to present to the valuer any items that may have been concealed for security reasons, such as cash or jewelry. Apart from this, the process of valuation is quite simple and nothing to get too concerned about. The valuer will make his way around the property taking note of furniture, collectibles, pictures, rugs and all household items, even if they have little or no value.

It is not necessary to empty the contents of cupboards and drawers because our experienced probate valuer will be able to asses the contents in-situ unless of course there are items of silver or other valuables which he will automatically recognise. But there are exceptions where a house is subject to hoarding and the valuation becomes a little more complicated. Details of such valuations can be obtained by contacting our senior valuer Jeffrey Avery.

The inspection or valuation will include garden machinery and tools so you may like to open any sheds, garage or storage areas in readiness for appraisal. At this point and a reputable firm of valuers we advise you that it is important, if not more important to put values even if zero to the chattels, and the Inland Revenue are far more likely to accept our values, as opposed to those submitted by a layman, which may put an executor and the estate at risk of scrutiny by Inheritance Tax officials.

Once our valuer has inspected all of the chattels that form part of the deceased estate, including any vehicles or boats he will transfer these details into file for retention and form a written probate report which will itemise any high value pieces, along with a round figure for general contents and lesser collectibles. The final written probate report will be compiled on our official headed notepaper, signed by the valuer and promptly forwarded to you within 48 hours of the visit.

Using our Rics probate valuation services will ensure that the estate chattels are not over or undervalued but in strict accordance Inheritance Tax guidelines. For any further information relating to probate valuation of house contents call Jeffrey Avery directly for confidential advice on 0800 567 7769

Rare Titanic Song Sheet Found By Jeffrey Avery During A House Clearance In London

April 22nd, 2012

House Clearance London Photo of Rare Titanic Song Sheet

House Clearance London Photo of Rare Titanic Song Sheet

House clearance London specialist Jeffrey Avery has discovered a rare Titanic song sheet.

Soon after his discovery of the very rare 1908 Olympic programme Jeffrey Avery has now found an extremely rare Titanic song sheet, also believed to be the only one here in the UK. Jeff Avery was at a local boot fair selling collectibles and bric a brac when he found the Titanic song sheet tucked away between the pages of a vintage magazine that had been sitting untouched on a table and was almost lost in the paper for recycling.

Jeffrey Avery & Associates carry out house clearance in London and empty around twelve properties a month entirely of household furniture and effects, this was the main reason why the BBC staged episode 4 of “The Apprentice” at their second hand furniture outlet in Tooting, London SW17 . The majority of our London house clearance stock is taken to our second hand furniture outlet based at 291 Mitcham Road, Tooting, where you find all manner of things in a shop that is absolutely packed to the gunnel’s with stock. A large amount of the small items and collectibles are then sold on at local boot fair’s like Wimbledon dog track and Brighton Marina, two of the busiest boot fairs in the south of England.

Because of the fact that we carry out probate valuation of house contents in London, we are often asked to clear the properties after probate has been granted. Many of the probate estates e assist are at the high end of the inheritance tax scale, therefore the quality and standard of the house contents we clear is very high usually consisting of antiques and collectibles which all end up for sale one way or another through our retail premises.

Most house clearances in London for our company are of this nature and as well as the quality contents we also deal with the removal of general rubbish and clutter which nearly all homes ave. All material is graded from the best of the antiques right down to pots and pans, and we are proud to say that we can nearly always find a home for all items cleared. Jeffrey Avery has a saying – ” If it has use then we will make sure it get re-used”. A recent client has just left this testimonial which reads -  “Dear Jeffery, I can’t thank you enough. Our mother would so have loved your attitude – her watchword was “If there’s any use in it….” which drove us mad, but meant that I know you will reuse almost all of her bits, pieces and furniture. You, Landing and Jacob worked very efficiently and I was able to return to Birmingham that day, seeing that the flat was ready for the next owner and knowing that very little would be thrown away”.

Jeff Avery says that “even if it cant be sold it can be given away free”.

RICS Probate Valuation Merstham, Redhill, Surrey RH1 – Probate Valuers Details Of Asprey Silver Inkwell

Probate Valuation Mersthem Photo of Silver Ink Well

Probate Valuation Merstham Photo of Silver Ink Well

In a recent probate valuation in Quality Street, Mersthem, Redhill, Surrey RH1 3BB, probate valuers report to include an Asprey solid silver  inkwell

Jeffrey Avery & Associates are regularly carry out probate valuation in Surrey, but it was during a probate valuation of chattels in Quality Street, Merstham, Redhill, Surrey RH1 3BB that the Asprey silver ink well was viewed. We have also carried out probate valuation in Little Bookham, Long Ditton, Kingswood, Longcross, Lower Kingswood, Merrow, Mickleham and Milford, but it was during the probate valuation of house contents in Merstham RH1 that we found the Asprey Inkwell.

Asprey was founded in 1781 in Mitcham, South London.

It was there that William Asprey established a silk printing business. William’s son Charles and his grandson, also Charles, expanded the business into the metallic arts. In 1841 the elder Charles went into partnership with a London stationer located on Bond Street. In 1847 the Asprey family broke with their partner and moved into 167 New Bond Street, the premises Asprey occupies today.

Asprey advertised “articles of exclusive design and high quality, whether for personal adornment or personal accompaniment and to endow with richness and beauty the tables and homes of people of refinement and discernment.” An early speciality was dressing cases. Asprey not only made superlative traditional cases, they re conceived the category, creating new, more portable designs, especially in leather, suitable for the new style of travel ushered in by railways.  The company consolidated its position through shrewd acquisitions. In 1859 Asprey absorbed Edwards, an award winning maker of dressing cases and holder of a Royal Warrant.

The company purchased the Alfred Club at 22 Albemarle Street, which backed on to the New Bond Street store and meant that Asprey now had entrances on two of London’s most fashionable streets. Asprey established its reputation as the premier maker of luxury goods by winning a gold medal for its dressing cases at the International Exhibition of 1862. In the same year Asprey was granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria.

We always carry out extensive research, so by having our RICS probate valuation we will ensure that the chattels are not under or overvalued.

RICS Probate Valuation Leatherhead, Surrey KT24 – Probate Valuers Note The Archangel Gabriel

April 18th, 2012
Probate Valuation Leatherhead Photo of Angel Gabriel

Probate Valuation Leatherhead Photo of Angel Gabriel

In a recent probate valuation in Chester Road, Surrey KT24 5SQ, probate valuers report includes a 19th century figure of the archangel Gabriel

Jeffrey Avery & Associates are regularly carry out probate valuation in Surrey, but it was during a probate valuation of chattels in Chester Road, Leatherhead, Surrey KT24 5SQ that the religious figure was viewed. We have also carried out probate valuation in Horsell, Wingswood Warren, Laleham, Lashenden, Leigh, Leith Hill, Limpsfield and Lingfield,  but it was during the probate valuation of house contents in Leatherhead KT24 that we found the Archangel Gabriel figure

The Archangel Gabriel is the exalted Messenger of God, whose name means “The Strength of God” and whose deeds are recorded in the Jewish scriptures, where the spirit aided the Prophet Daniel in the interpretation of his dream-visions. Although an important Jewish angel, Gabriel has touched the lives of those of different religions as well.

In the Christian Bible, it is Gabriel who brings important news to Zachary and the Virgin Mary concerning their children-to-be, and many Christians believe that at the Last Judgement Gabriel will blow a sacred trumpet horn.

Furthermore, according to Muslims, Gabriel dictated the Koran to Mohammed over a period of 23 years and also accompanied the Prophet on his Night Journey.

Some people believe that Gabriel is a female spirit; others hold that angels have no gender.

Because of Gabriel’s role as a communicator and mediator between Heaven and Earth, Catholics hold the Archangel to be a Patron Saint of broadcasters, telecommunications workers, diplomats, messengers, postal workers, and stamp collectors. Because Gabriel helped the prophet Daniel interpret his dreams, those seeking similar aid with their own dream work may petition the Archangel for help. Additionally, because Gabriel announced the births of both John the Baptist and Jesus Christ, women hoping for heavenly assistance in trying to conceive children have reported benefits from keeping an Angel Gabriel novena candle burning in the home.

We always carry out extensive research, so by having our RICS probate valuation we will ensure that the chattels are not under or overvalued.

RICS Probate Valuation Hindhead, Surrey GU26 6HJ – Probate Valuers List Qing Dynasty Vase

Probate Valuation Hindhead Photo of Qing Vase

In a recent probate valuation in Crossways Road, Hindhead, Surrey GU26 6HJ, probate valuers report includes a Qing dynasty Chinese vase

Jeffrey Avery & Associates are regularly carry out probate valuation in Surrey, but it was during a probate valuation of chattels in Crossways Road, Hindhead, Surrey GU26 6HJ that the beautiful Qing vase was viewed. We have also carried out probate valuation in Haslemere, Hersham, Holmbur St Mary, Holmwood, Hookwood, Horley, and Horne but it was during the probate valuation of house contents in Hindhead GU26 that we spotted the Chinese vase

When Ming was taken over by Qing (about 1639-1700 AD), and when Qing was taken over by the Republic of China (about 1909-1915 AD), the disturbances in these two periods resulted in the collapse of the official kilns. In their places, private kilns were established by the operators and artists who previously worked in the official kilns. With their expertise, they produced high quality porcelain wares, such as the ‘export porcelain wares made during the transition of Ming to Qing’, which earned a high praise in overseas markets, and the excellent imitations of Sung, Yuan and Qing wares are made during “the early stage of the Republic of China,” which were almost true to the originals.

When the war broke out in 1937, triggered by the incident at Lo-Kou Bridge, all the kilns were closed. The operators and artists were dispersed, and many of them traveled to the south, trying to make a living. When peace came in 1945, social stability led to the re-establishment of the pottery industry. In this stretch of fifty years to the present time, the industry has re-gained its previous glory and is enjoying a growing prosperity. In the past twenty years, the ceramics industry has been developing at a quick pace.

We always carry out extensive research, so by having our RICS probate valuation we will ensure that the chattels are not under or overvalued.

Art Deco is a form of Modernism that flourished in the United States and Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. The origins of Art Deco began two decades earlier in Paris. “La Societe des artistes decorateurs” or the Decorative Artists Society was founded following the Universal Exposition of 1900. Early members, including architect Hector Guimard, believed in the importance of France’s decorative arts and marketing their achievements for business purposes. These artists also displayed their creations at the International Exposition of Modern Industrial and Decorative Art in Paris in 1925.

The Decorative Artists Society inspired the name “Art Deco,” but the term did not become popular until the publication of “Art Deco of the 20’s and 30’s” by Bevis Hillier in 1968.

Our RICS probate valuation will ensure that the chattels are not under or overvalued.
